Interview With Lesley

Lesley, what is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a safe and effective form of complementary therapy using the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious changes to thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It will improve and enhance an individual’s mental attitude to aid relaxation, remove anxieties and addictions, boost confidence, maintain composure, and overcome fears and phobias.
Can you explain what hypnosis is?
Hypnosis is best described as a deep state of relaxation and focused attention. It is neither sleep nor unconsciousness; it is an altered state of awareness otherwise referred to as a ‘trance state’. This gives access to the subconscious part of the mind — which at this stage is wonderfully open to constructive and creative suggestions — allowing a positive shift in your thoughts, emotions and wellbeing. Uncertainty and ever-changing circumstances lead to emotional changes, anxiety, depression, anger and various other emotional reactions, all of which can lead to ill health.
Will I be ‘under’ and not know what’s going on during hypnosis?
As you enter hypnosis, you disconnect your mind from the body and its surroundings. Your awareness is withdrawn from the normal alert state you walk around in and goes inwardly; you will however still maintain ‘control’. You never give up control of your mind or body during hypnosis and you’re never unconscious. The power of hypnosis is your ability to harness the full potential of your imagination without the normal restrictions of the critical mind or ‘ego’ as we know it. The hidden power of trance is in the suggestions you listen to and how much you embrace these new ideas.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes. Anyone can be hypnotised. When it comes to hypnosis, medical experts and psychotherapists agree that everyone can be hypnotised, but not everyone wants to be. Wanting to be hypnotised and being open to the hypnotic process is very important. It’s also important that the person who is going to be hypnotised feels comfortable with the hypnotherapist.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. Hypnosis is perfectly safe and natural, every one of us naturally enters occurring states of hypnosis throughout the day; it may be in the form of daydreaming or being totally engrossed in a book.
Will it work?
A high percentage of clients benefit from hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is one of the safest and most successful therapies for improving mental and physical health, sporting performance and study focus.
